Family Info: The Puryear Family was traced back to our ancestors Opoway and Lucendia Puryear, his wife. He also had two brothers Tom and William Puryear. All of them lived together on a tobacco plantation in Danville Virgina.
In 1866 Tom and William were sold to a slave owner in Canadaville Tennessee, a small town near Mason, TN. that no longer exist today.
Years later in 1873, Opoway and Lucendia were sold to a slave owner in Winston Salem, North Carolina. Several years later Tom and William saved enough money to buy Opoway and Lucendia from the slave owner in North Carolina and moved them to Canadaville,Tennessee.
From this history we can be certain this where our heritage began because Collierville, Macon, Somerville and Whiteville are all within a reasonable distance to Canadaville.
